IYKYK

If You Know You Know is an expression we use to talk about an experience or piece of info that only certain friends would understand. Almost like an inside joke, we post a picture of something we did or that happened and post the hashtag #iykyk in order to create a buzz to the people on the outside. The idea is there is more to the story that others aren’t privy to.

In this series we want to tackle some of the messages that the world presents to us. We are bombarded from so many different places that it becomes easy to maybe start to believe these messages.

So we want to stop and look at what God’s Word has to say in reference to these cultural lies. Once we receive that message, it can change the way we view things and help us to change the way we respond.

And #iykyk can become for us a way to remind us that there is a better way to view and respond to life. God’s way.

Week 1 – 1/13 & 1/17
Performance – Palmer Dill
We often feel like we are meant to perform well. It may have different names or be called differently, but there’s an underlying message that our worth is correlated to our ability. And that couldn’t be farther from the truth. In Christ we are loved, because we are #iykyk

Matthew 3:13-17

Week 2 – 1/20 & 1/24
Truth – Daniel “stallion” Stevanus
Our view of truth in 2021 is a lot different than what it used to be. It used to be objective, absolute and have one definition that was understood and agreed by most people. Today, however, truth tends to be subjective and different according to whoever is speaking it. The Bible teaches that there is absolute truth and it is found in Jesus. When we can agree to this view of truth, we can live and orient our lives around that.

John 14:6 | Jeremiah 17:9

Week 3 – 1/27 & 1/31
Value – Palmer Dill
What we value and what is important to us may feel like a conviction or passion of ours. If we were to think critically about it, however, we may find that a lot of what is important to us has been imprinted on us from society. And at the end of the day, what our culture values isn’t the same as God’s value system.

Once we can identify what is important to God and align our own values to that, we then gain freedom to live not according to the world’s pressures, but according to God’s will.

Matthew 22:34-39

Week 4 – 2/3 & 2/7
Loneliness – Daniel “stallion” Stevanus
Statistically speaking, students feel lonelier now than ever before. It is ironic because we live in this technology age where we also are more connected than before. And yet that doesn’t translate to feeling closer to people, in fact it has the opposite affect.

God tells us though we are never alone in Him. And He has given us community as a gift to stay connected, grow and feel that love that He desires for us. We all can be reminded today that community helps us in our walk with Christ.
